Did you get your REC privledges stripped? Please reply

Ok, by now everyone is well aware of that fact that many users who RECed articles not written by the "Permanent REC listers" all of a sudden found themselves to still have "trusted user" status but could not REC any diaries.

Please use this diary to state your case and be counted.

I am curious to know now, and for historical reflection how many members certain "people" thought it would take to weaken discourse on this site.

Also I must ask the person who cannot be named out of fear, if you wanted to protect the REC list so bad, why not make those people front page writers and leave the personal diaries to be free.

I must say the oppression followed by silence is not part of the value system we are fighting for this fall.

If you had your rate/rec privileges "disappear", please try changing your password. There is apparently a bug in scoop which inadvertently flips a bit. This has happened to a number of people, and password changes fix it.

It's selective disenfranchisement. I changed my password. It made no difference.

And somehow have survive calling Jerome out. But I have no reccing or mojoing privileges anymore.

I've been here four years, and I think Jerome's behaviour is a complete betrayal of the netroots movement.

I'm much more angry at this than anything a Hillary supporter has said. At least they can say it, and I can argue, and we can both make fools of ourselves, and people can be persuaded or not. Censorship - for that's what it is - is somehow worth than any calumny.

The "password change" recommendation is a red herring, but try it if you like; it does nothing.

It happened to me, and I griped somewhere, and someone recommended the password change to me. I did it, and it worked. I think the gist is that if you were intentionally stripped, it won't work. If you were only bugged, it will. But I can say from first-hand experienced, it fixed my login.

Mine are gone after I zeroed Jerome in the Preening Obama post. It was worth it. :-P

I suggest we all add "Unable to rec or rate" as our signatures. Would be amusing to see half the members here with that signature.

Yes you mojo'ed a comment of mine. I had six mojos. And minutes later I had four. You were stripped with someone else.

I mean. Come on, Jerome. The whole preening thing was so provocative. Don't you expect us to call you out. People called out Kos when he flipped over Obama goign on Fox. The whole point of debate is to listen to the other side. Disagree if you will. Insult if they're insulting. Argue back

Lost ability to rate or rec a week ago. Have contacted admin twice, no reply. Still able to read hidden comments, so still a "TU" (?) will change my sig line now. Thanks for the idea!

I had mine removed for no reason I am aware of, other than my support of Obama.

I tried changing my signature, using the "contact us" button at the bottom of the page 3x times.

I have no idea why. I even asked folks to review my post history and give me candid feedback on my post to see if I might have ever crossed any line, nothing.

I lost recommending and rating privileges after I recommended a Bob Johnson diary (a diary which essentially asked why his previous diary was censored).

I had registered about a month previously, and posted eight or ten comments in total - almost every one of them received mojo, and none had been troll or hide-rated by anyone.

I've changed my password twice since then, logged in and out, without effect.

This sort of cowardly action absolutely does not embody the sort of values that I expect from a Democratic site.

Funny thing is that Bob Johnson post was removed from the Rec'ed list then later put back up.

Speaking of which, anyone else ever notice how some diaries from particular posters seem to get on the Rec list before they even have 2 or 3 responses.

That's how I figured out what happened to me. The day after I rec'd his diary, I read DailyKos before returning to MyDD - where someone posted about having lost his privileges at MyDD because of this; upon seeing this he posted something trollish to provoke the mods into banning him completely.

So a few minutes later, when I went to MyDD, I saw that my rating history was eviscerated and all the rate and recommend buttons were gone; I thus concluded it was because I'd recommended Bob's diary.

I haven't posted much since then, other than to gripe about this. I'd rather participate in a place where honest and open discussion between people with different points of view is encouraged.

But this used to be a great site, with a scale and a level of detail on some issues you can't get at DKOS. Don't give up - help us fight back and give reasonable dissent and lively debate a good name here again.

I just changed my password. Nothing else changed. I am still unable to rec. I wrote an email to Jerome and have been awaiting a response for a few days.
My last comment didn't show up either...

This site is glitchy as hell, several people have reported being able to get their ability back by changing their password. However, for most people that does not work. Consider adding Unable to recommend or rate as your signature...

Hey. Chitown. We've had some good discussions, both under this username, and the previous one as Brit. I would NEVER want you banned. I always need to hear the alternative point of view. You always struck me as someone who could stand up for themselves without needing opposing voices silenced. Will you stand up for us?

No. The principle of discourse is to state your case. Too many on this diary were abusive to those with differing opinions. I can't begin to list all the four-letter words I've been called on this site by those with different opinions than mine. Grow up!

You missed the point. The obvious trolls get trolled, but we had a reasonable discussion.

The people who got their privileges taken away were targeted NOT because they swore or were abusive, but because they rec'ed a Pro Obama diary.

It should be in the upper right corner of the page... in the same column as the ads but higher.

I have not, although I expect it any moment now. There is onne particularly trollish commenter (who can't rate), that I have judiciously hide-rated for some mean spirited comments.

Add the signature...I've been hearing for so long that all the Obama supporters were losing that ability. Just look at the rec list diaries, compared to the comments in them. It's obvious there's more of us here, but we can't control the dialog.

but I'm not completely sure of that, honestly.

I spent a few days on a campaign of HR/TR for folks calling eachother or a candidate "racist" or "sexist" (and a special effort for LittleOtter who called US Senator Obama a "Pig") while seeking out reasonable Clinton comments to mojo.

Seems my LittleOtter hunt may have been the last straw, but no explanation of course...

Happened before, I assume I'll get my bullets back "Aw c'mon, Andy, can I have my bullet, please?"

No skin off the old back. Used them well and proud of it.

I had my rec privileges removed when I called Jerome out last week on the tax gas holiday.

I was banned under a previous username for rec'cing a Bob Johnson diary, then writing one myself wondering if the rec list was manipulated.

It took two minutes. It wasn't a partisan diary or criticising any candidate or person. Check it out here.

I think it's disgraceful that a site that boasts itself as a community, is in fact manipulated and controlled secretively. I never broke any guidelines, and I have been banned and limited, even though Hillary supporters have said I'm a reasonable and personable Obama supporter

This is not Crashing the Gates, this is Closing the Gates, and I only speak up because I have been a member here for four years, and really like MYDD, and am willing to fight for its identity, even at the risk of being banned again.

I've been here since 2004 as well. I genuinely liked this site, it focused on a lot of smaller scale stuff that dailykos glossed over, but it got taken over by hillaryis44 and noquarter trolls and racists. I did my part to try to keep order here, but all for nothing, my many ratings are gone. It would be the equivalent for Clinton supporters if KnowVox had all his ratings deleted. In any case, I've stayed mainly for the laughs now, as Jerome clearly enjoys the new company here.

I like the scale of the community here, and actually appreciate dissenting voices. Without being partisan, can't we stand up for ALL reasonable democrats, regardless of their candidate in these temporary primary wars? I thought debate and transparency as a principle of the netroots movement?

Another diary with exactly the same message, calling on Hillary supporters to fight this manipulation was just deleted seconds after it was posted.

I may not survive the night, but here's the comment I wrote in regard to that:

Good for you. I would personally defend any Hillary supporter who lost the ability to rec or rate.

Hell. Why do I come here more than DKOS? Because I think at the heart of democracy is healthy reasonable DISSENT.

Racist or sexist comments apart, I've never hide rated or trolled anyone. If we can't express our disagreements, where is the hope for dialogue.

On a progressive blog like this, which is after all 'just talk', this kind of censorship is not just against the spirit of netroots, it's an existential challenge.

If we can post. rec or rate, then this community is sham and we might as well be an editorialised front page of the MSM media.

So Hillary supporters. They came for us. But one day soon they might come for you. Let's prove this community is bigger than these candidate wars. And show the admins that we take the guidelines SERIOUSLY

This is a self correcting and self censoring community, not a virtual thought police state.
