McGovern, former Clinton backer, urges her to drop out

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Former Sen. George McGovern, who backed Hillary Rodham Clinton, is urging her to drop out of the Democratic presidential race.

McGovern said Wednesday he has decided to endorse Barack Obama.

After watching the returns from the North Carolina and Indiana primaries Tuesday night, McGovern says it's virtually impossible for Clinton to win the nomination.

McGovern says he is calling former President Clinton to tell him of the decision and adds that he remains close friends with the Clintons.

I also heard Wes Clark was urging her to drop out, now confirmation on THAT is what I am waiting for.
but no matter what we have alot of work to do

and I am really saddened by this quote I just read on Taylormarsh.com

"In my opinion, it is more important to end Barack Obama than win the White House. What he and his thugs will do, and have already done, to the Democratic Party will destroy it."

I'm with you too Shtuey. There is more going on, I'm afraid, than we know. I see Obama as an unmitigated disaster.

how sad :(

Luckily, Taylor Marsh is nucking futs. (2.00 / 0)

And few of even the most strident Clinton supporters will be following him down that hole.

Taylor Marsh is a piece of sh!t,  plain and simple.

Whats funny is the The Young Turks interviewed her yesterday.

Your tlaking about the most logical and pro-progressive media radio show interviewing the worst of the worst.  I couldnt even listen to that women,  what a joke, what a clown.

As soon as I can get access to the interview I will play it.   She so shocked the hosts of TYT that they said almost no comments after she got off the air.

Well (2.00 / 0)

I'm not surprised, but these Democrats who seek revenge first, on both sides (I'm including those who would rather see Clinton defeated had she been the nominee) have really caused me to doubt the sincerity and the ability of some in this party to lead.

This is exactly why we can't win elections, there is too much selfishness, pettiness and "me" in this party.

They're an embarassment to their respective candidates.

That's sad... but is is not surprising given some of the comments I have seen on THIS site today.

this is what happens when sites become echo chambers.

Taylormarsh.com
Hillaryis44.org those are just not democratic sites, this is just ugh.

well we have 6 months to heal, so no one should assume that this will be only a 1-2 day process, nothing has changed, it will probably be a few months before we see any signs of real healing in this party

but its time to start

I agree....

I recommended a pro-Clinton diary on Kos the other day... it was nice to see one frankly....

I kept waiting for someone to call out people on hillaryis44 fo the incredibly nasty things they were calling Donna B. and Michelle Obama... but it didn't happen.

Sad, so sad...

Taylor didn't make that comment.  Actually, she will support Obama is he is the nominee.  You know nothing about her.  Should we take isolated posts off of pro-Obama blogs and post them?

I can't disagree, (none / 0)

but I think such entreaties are more appropriate in private, not in the press.  If McGovern is the close friend he claims to be, that should have been sufficient.

Re: I can't disagree, (none / 0)

Well it was a public endorsement to start with, now it's a public denouncment too.

The point is to make it public that it is over.

I give it 36 more hours to go.

Not saying HRC-Machine will shut down, just saying the Democratic Party and MSM will call it a night.

Now Im sure Rush Hannity and the RNC will be fighting hard to keep her in there.

Nah. As we've seen 2 on 1 can be effective. (2.00 / 0)

They should team up on McCain and drive him into the ground.

McGovern is an ass (2.00 / 1)

Both Hillary and Bill worked on his failed campaign in 1972.

I know Republicans are loyal to a fault, but I'd like to see a little more spine and loyalty on our side.

Re: McGovern is an ass (none / 0)

Maybe you could call him a lazy ass for not doing this sooner.

The race is over, expect about 100 more endorsements over the next 36 hours.

The last will pathetically be Edwards and Gore.

No he is weak (none / 0)

for not following through.

This fretting and hand-wringing over "oh my god we might be dividing the party" and "OMG Hillary's strength makes Obama looks weak" makes me yearn for a party that's not afraid of its own shadow.

Obama is a delicate flower with less of a record than Deval Patrick.

Re: McGovern,urges her to drop out (2.00 / 1)

I always knew George McGovern was a smart man. He obviously knows right now which horse to back.Since The Clintons are so close to him, this should be a clear message to the Clinton Camp that this is over.

Yes, Hillary please step down and make way for the NEXT McGovern.  Hmm, she's making a speech in WV right now.  I don't think she's listening.

This is why (none / 0)

Hillary should do the right thing and end this race. The longer she stays in, the more it fuels the vitriol between both 'factions' of the party.

She's giving her supporters false hope about a race that she is full aware she cannot win.

Besides her blatantly destroying this party, it is not the right thing to do. The fact that the superd's have to publicly begin to tell her to leave, just proves my point.

Re: This is why (none / 0)

It is like when you chop the head off a chicken. You know how it runs around for a few moments, because it doesn't know any better. But eventually it comes to it's senses and says, "Oh, that's right, I'm dead". I guess what I'm saying is anytime now, she'll eventually realize that her head was cut off.

Re: McGovern, former Clinton backer, urges her to (2.00 / 1)

Is McGovern, the man who set the Democratic Party back 20 years is telling Hillary Clinton, who has gotten more votes than any other candidate ever (except Obama, if you don't count MI and FL) to quit????

I didn't even know he was still alive!!!

Keep going Hillary.  Tell these men (and I use the term loosely) to go screw themselves.  And all your former friends who are really opportunities to go screw themselves too.

The Death of the Democratic Party is at hand... and Obama is the deliverer.
